Position Title: Machinery Engineer

Location: Fort Saskatchewan, AB

Job Description:

This is a temporary position (6-8 months) acting as the Machinery Engineer for a Production Unit.  The position requires an individual that proactively and independently provides the engineering and technical assurance support required primarily by Operations and Maintenance for the safe operation, diagnosis, repair, and enhancement of rotating equipment. In addition, the individual is required to provide engineering support for capital projects. 

Responsibilities include:

•     Daily proactive technical monitoring of rotating equipment for assigned units utilizing data provided by PI, machinery protection systems, log sheets, vibration spectrum analysis, lubrication anlaysis and through discussion with Production Specialists, Maintenance Specialists, and other core Area Team members.
•     Identify and pursue reliability improvement initiatives related to machinery.
•     Lead for machinery, and provide input for other disciplines, new installations, retrofits and modifications through the management of change process
•     Provide machinery engineering support required to implement and maintain Global work processes (Mitigate Threats to Availability, RCM, ESP, HEMP)
•     Maintain strong communication with Production Unit Area Team core members, Manager and peers to provide the organization direction with regards to risks and opportunities associated with managing our rotating equipment to ensure the long term reliability.
•     Determine intervals for equipment overhauls and inspections to support Maintenance and inspection plans
•     Provide work lists and repair scopes for machinery to support turnaround planning and execution.
•     Conduct failure analyses and causal investigation of machinery failures utilizing industry specialists as required.
•     Provide engineering support to Projects in machinery specification, design reviews and equipment selection.
•     Support Maintenance Specialists with development of repair procedures for critical equipment, capital spares, unique equipment.
•     Develop and maintain condition-monitoring programs for plant critical equipment.
•     Contribute to and review new operating procedures and procedural changes specific to machinery.
•     Monitor machinery operation to evaluate pump, compressor, skid performance evaluations
•     Develop and maintain relationships with off-site Projects and Technologies expertise relating to machinery.
•     Some overtime potentially required as dictated by operational needs.

Dimensions

•     This position does not have any direct reports but requires a strong ability to provide leadership through influencing others. The position is a key role in Production Unit Area Teams and provides guidance and input for the Production Unit Maintenance budgets and CAPEX spend relating to unit responsibilities. Balancing the support required by the Area Production Teams to achieve yearly business goals with engineering technical assurance responsibilities.

Required Skills

•     Professional Engineer and eligibility for registration with APEGA.
•     10+ years of professional experience at upgrading or manufacturing sites
•     Strong knowledge of rotating equipment engineering principles and practical experience in their operation (pumps, compressors, turbines, fans and blowers)
•     Strong knowledge of compressor and pump performance tools (PI, Bentley Nevada, CSI, oil analysis)
•     Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead through influence
•     Good presentation and technical writing skills.
•     Demonstrates and shares professional expertise.
•     Consistently achieves results by setting challenging targets, organizing work effectively and overcoming obstacles. Knows how to make use of networks and demonstrates communication and influencing skills.
•     Ability and availability to start immediately
