Job Description

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full time 1 year contract 

Responsible for the procurement and inventory management goals of predetermined commodities within an ERP environment.  Demonstrates a solid understanding of key business areas affecting the supply chain and has an understanding of how their work impacts cross-functional groups.

 

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

8- 10 years purchasing experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment. A college diploma or University degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management or the equivalent combination of experience and education.

Language Skills

 

Reasoning Ability

Strong planning and organization skills are required. Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritise work, set targets and make decisions.  Ability to work accurately and methodically under pressure.

Math Skills

 

Computer Skills

Knowledge of MRP systems.  Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.

Certificates/ Licenses

 

Other

Proven experience in major contract negotiating and administration. Familiar with production processes, particularly JIT systems, Kanban, and LEAN.  Superior people and negotiating skills.

  • Deal with materials purchasing issues or projects with a high level of complexity.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to purchasing materials.
  • Refer issues requiring in-depth knowledge or knowledge about the broader business impact of decisions.
  • Execute actions to align with the strategies and business processes of achieving lowest possible prices from existing and alternate sources.
  • Ensure purchase orders and purchase order changes and renewal conform to contract terms.
  • Monitor and report supplier performance, and conduct regular program evaluation.
  • Participate in supplier audits, where required.
  • Work in a team environment with manufacturing, engineering, quality and suppliers to reduce costs, improve on time delivery and improve quality.
  • Assist with special projects in the department such as report preparation, data collection and spreadsheet generation.
  • Document and notify all concerned parties regarding shortages, delivery and related issues, and determines/recommends alternate approaches and substitutions for equipment and parts.
  • Analyse proposals and tenders.
  • Manage contracts, records and supplier performance.
  • Negotiate long-term agreements for critical and complex supplies.
  • Set up supplier partnerships or alliances and builds a rapport with vendors.
  • Improve supply chain co-ordination and integration within our organization.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced Buyers including transferring product and client knowledge and information on company policies and procedures.
  • Lead cross-functional teams.
  • Adhere to companies Quality Assurance System.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.
